Condensation
Condensation is the most common form of damp in our homes. It affects properties of all ages and types. If left untreated it can cause all sorts of problems, from black mould to structural issues. But we have fast, effective solutions to help you deal with condensation in your home.

Condensation Problems
You will have come across condensation in your home on different surfaces – windows, mirrors, inside your fridge and even behind free-standing cupboards. It’s quite normal for an occupied building to hold water vapour in its warm air from everyday life: bathing, cooking, drying laundry and, of course, breathing. It happens when warm air inside the building interacts with cold exterior surfaces, like walls or windows; essentially anywhere where warm and humid air comes into contact with much colder air.
If left untreated, moisture from condensation will penetrate fabrics, plaster and woodwork. Signs of condensation – which could turn into something much worse – include water droplets on windows and cold surfaces, damp patches appearing and disappearing, musty smells in cupboards, wardrobes or corners and black mould spots, particularly in bathroom grout or window frames.
Apart from the damage to your home, condensation-related mould can trigger allergies and respiratory issues, as well as making conditions like asthma much worse. It can have a devastating effect on the vulnerable as well as resulting in an unappealing, unpleasant and harmful atmosphere.
Condensation Solutions
You can see it’s important to take care of any suspected condensation-related issues as soon as possible. A swift and thorough specialist investigation from the experts at London Damp Specialists can immediately assess and determine condensation and provide you with effective and log-lasting moisture solutions.
Treating and halting condensation issues is worth the cost – long-term damage will cost much more to repair, and any issues from condensation will cause problems when you come to sell your home.
There are short-term solutions for dealing with condensation. You could open a window but keep doors shut in spaces with high moisture, and introduce a movable household dehumidifier. That could lessen the effects of condensation but will fail to properly deal with the issue or provide a permanent condensation solution, which in turn may still allow further damage to your home or family’s health.
How to Manage Condensation
London Damp Specialists can quickly diagnose and examine any condensation issues, pinpoint the cause and then suggest condensation solutions, leaving your property safe and dry. This may include:
- Sealing the affected room and running a dehumidifier for a recommended time.
- Measuring air humidity and temperature with ‘humiditect’ cards, meters and other instruments.
- Once we confirm condensation (rather than damp), we may recommend installing a condensation control unit, such as a Nuaire ventilation solution. This will operate cheaply, quickly and effectively, and out of sight in your property, drawing out vapour-filled air and replacing it with modified air.
What to Do if You Have Condensation

Customer Testimonials
We are always looking for keen trainees who want to become qualified tradespeople; work under supervision and part of the tenure would involve classroom learning. There will always be a demand for qualified surveyors and skilled damp proofers; you can expect a challenging and rewarding career.
Many customers are working full time and we try to fit in with your schedule, as long as we can access the property, it is not necessary for anyone to be at home when the work is carried out. We are happy to follow your instructions.
Yes, the roof is an integral component of any structure and a lot of timber needs to be inspected. Our employees need to access the loft, you are not required to move anything in the loft, access is all we need.
In theory, damp can rise to the second floor, but generally 100-200mm before the issue would be noticed. Rising damp originates at ground level, so you should inspect the exterior walls at the ground level, looking for signs of crumbling brickwork or mortar. Mould is usually present or a green moss and check the entire perimeter of the building when looking for rising damp.
Rising damp can be identified by crumbling brickwork, masonry and mortar, damp patches on walls and ceilings, a musky small in the house, mould and mildew, while condensation on windows and walls indicate moisture in the air.

Survey Add Ons
Add On 1
Laboratory analysis Of plaster identifies hygroscopic salts such as chlorides and nitrates. which indicate whether damp is caused by rising groundwater or by plumbing leaks, This testing removes guesswork, allowing the exact source of moisture to be identified so the correct treatment is applied rather than carrying out unnecessary damp-proofing work.
Add On 2
qPCR DNA mould testing detects microscopic mould spores that are invisible during a normal inspection and van remain hidden behind walls, floors. or inside building rkaterials. It identifies the exact mould species present and the contamination level, allowing hidden mould problems to be confirrned and properly treated before they affect the property or occupants’ health.
Qualifications: All our surveyors are PCA and CSRT qualified for remedial treatments and also CSSW qualified for structural waterproofing.
Next day report: You will receive the report within 24 hours of the inspection taking place.
The survey fee will be deducted from the cost of any recommended repairs.
These are the tools we use
A damp meter
A damp meter is a diagnostic tool used to detect and measure moisture levels within building materials such as plaster, brick, timber, and concrete.
Borescope camera
borescope camera is a small inspection camera attached to a flexible semi-rigid cable that allows you to see inside areas that are otherwise inaccessible.
Inspection Drone
A drone is a remotely operated aerial device equipped with a camera that allows visual inspection from above without the need for scaffolding or ladder.
Air Humidity Sensor
Air humidity sensor measures the amount of moisture present in the air, expressed as relative humidity (RH) in percentage. It helps determine whether indoor conditions are contributing to condensation, mould growth, or damp-related issues.
Thermal Imaging Camera
A thermal imaging camera detects temperature differences on surfaces by using infrared technology to produce a heat map image. In damp investigations, it helps identify cold spots, moisture intrusion, insulation defects, thermal bridging and leaks.
Air Flow Ventilation Detector
An air flow ventilation detector measures the movement and volume of air passing through vents, extractor fans, and air bricks. It confirms whether ventilation systems are working properly and achieving adequate air changes within a room. Poor airflow leads to trapped moisture, high humidity, condensation on cold surfaces, and ultimately mould growth.
Mould Swab Test Kit
A mould swab test is carried out to confirm the presence of hidden mould growth and identify the specific species involved. Surface mould is not always visible, especially behind furniture, inside cavities, or within ventilation systems. Laboratory analysis of a swab sample determines whether active mould spores are present and what type they are, which helps assess potential health risks and decide the correct remediation approach rather than relying on visual assumption alone.
Plaster Salt Analysis Lab
Laboratory analysis of plaster is used to identify the type of salts present within the material, typically chlorides and nitrates. The presence and concentration of these salts help determine whether the moisture source is consistent with rising damp, ground contamination, or another forms [sic] of water ingress. such as mains water leak, This removes guesswork and prevents misdiagnosis, ensuring the correct remedial treatment is specified rather than applying unnecessary or ineffective solutions.
